Café Services Opening Farmers’ Market At BIC In Shelton, Connecticut
Café Services diners at BIC will soon be able to browse for fresh, local produce on their lunch hour from nearby Beardsley Organic Farm.
The corporate dining company is launching an organic farmers’ market, which will be open outside the café during lunch every Wednesday from June through October. Committed to the sustainable practice of using local produce whenever possible, Café Services plans to purchase unsold produce at the end of every market day to feature in the next day’s lunch menus.
Bringing the farmers’ market to diners is just one way the corporate dining company has helped BIC promote employee wellness, since being appointed BIC’s food service provider in early February of this year. In April, Café Services chef-manager Chris Lewis participated in the BIC Health Fair, teaming with a local dietician to create healthy meal recipes and educate employees about nutrition.
Next on Chris’s agenda is rolling out the Café Services FitPicks™ Wellness Program. One of Café Services’ most popular offerings, FitPicks at BIC will give diners a wider variety of daily healthy menu choices along with useful information about nutrition. As an incentive to eat better, BIC will reward employees with a free healthy meal after purchasing four meals from the FitPicks menu.
“Encouraging employee wellness has long been a priority at BIC,” said Peter Lee, Area Director of Labor Relations at BIC Corporation. “Café Services is a committed partner who is vital in delivering healthful food choices to our employees through their nutritious and enjoyable menu options, as well as the upcoming farmers’ market.”
