The atmosphere on the grounds of General Electric’s Plainville, Connecticut plant felt like a carnival on Saturday evening, July 12—where hundreds dined on a hearty pasta dinner from Café Services, a corporate food services company serving Massachusetts and the greater northeast. For the 4th year in a row, Café Services provided the dinner in honor of the annual GE 5k Road Race to benefit the Petit Family Foundation. Launched in 2008, just one year after Dr. William Petit lost his wife and daughters in a violent home invasion, the race is the organization’s main fundraiser. Started by GE employees and former classmates of Petit, it has brought in over $1 million to fight chronic illness, champion youth education and help communities affected by violence. July 13th Road Race Attracts Over 5,000 Over 5,000 runners and walkers of all ages gathered in Plainville on Sunday morning, July 13 to participate in the 2014 race and events. The entire Café Services staff at GE volunteered at the pasta dinner, along with district manager Mike Poppers and associates from nearby Café Services corporate food services locations. Café Services chef/manager at GE, Charlotte Fletcher, describes a festive, family-friendly scene with a band, face painting, clowns and kids’ games. “Dr. Petit has a lot of loyal friends at GE and the communities around Plainville. They come out in full force for the race. I’ve been born and bred corporate dining and corporate catering from the very beginning of my career in the Silicon Valley and now, since 2001 in the Boston Metro Area. While working my way up through the ranks, all the experience has led up to my current position as the Corporate Executive Chef for Café Services, based out of Manchester, NH. I have the privilege to be able to utilize creativity, research and technology to dream up our company’s new culinary programs and custom menus for corporate cafeteria clients and bring them to life. Café Services supplies the resources to ensure success of our ever-evolving companywide culinary initiatives and I’m very grateful for the opportunity.
